A Sketch of What You Mean to Me
A Sketch of What You Mean to Me – A contemporary romance novel for teenagers
Can true love really conquer anything? We sure hope so for Kevin and his sweetheart
Read this contemporary romance novel by S. L. Giger and find out whether it’s as moving as “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green.
Kevin, a popular high school senior, thought that love only occurred to someone who didn’t know how to have fun in life. Oh boy, was he wrong. But just as Fiona completely convinces him otherwise, Kevin gets diagnosed with cancer. Since he sees it as a death sentence, he breaks up with Fiona to spare her the pain. She leaves for college without knowing the true reason behind the breakup. Now Kevin needs two miracles. One that makes him survive and one to undo the biggest mistake of his life.

Katie:
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It had so much depth. The characters felt and acted very real. They were not overly dramatic the way that so many teenagers are written these days. I look forward to more books by this author.
Reviewsbyang:
This was awesome book. I was pulled in right away and loved the way the character’s story evolved. It was sweet and heart wrenching at the same time. I definitely recommend.

I just started reading this book novel, and I was terribly captured … very interesting love story of Kevin and Fiona. I hope I’ll finish tomorrow, the book captures from the first words. Respect. I recommend to all.

I loved the story. I was happy one minute and had a knot in my throat another. But I didn’t like how it just stopped short and the end.

A Sketch of What You Mean to Me by S.L. Giger is a sweet YA romance read. I enjoyed Kevin and Fiona’s story. It had it’s ups and downs just like life. The characters weren’t vapid and shallow teens they had depth. They were believable and memorable and you could easily identify with one or both of the main characters on some level. The story line moves at a good pace and is believable as well.
Fiona is a high school athlete. She is on track to go to college. She has a boyfriend and she enjoys her life. Then she meets Kevin and her life changes. She realizes that maybe things aren’t as perfect as she would like to think. They strike up a friendship but as they spend time together the more their feelings for each other grow. Things go from good to great between the two of them. Everything seems to be perfect but then something changes. Will those changes cause a broken heart? Or will tings go on as they have been?
Kevin isn’t the most popular guy in school but he is popular. He is happy with his friends and his life. He doesn’t understand love…that is until he lays eyes on Fiona. He falls for her right away. He now understands how someone could fall in love at first sight. He plans and comes up with a strategy to get to know her. He is successful and they spend a lot of time together. She tells him he can’t flirt with her because she has a boyfriend but he knows he can’t promise her that. When he finds out he is sick he knows he must let her go. Can he live with that decision? Or will he regret it?
I really enjoyed reading A Sketch of What You Mean to Me. I liked the main characters a lot. I thought their romance was cute. I liked the way he devised a plan to get to know her. There were times I laughed in this book and a time or two that I cried. It’s an emotional read and not just because Kevin gets sick. I liked Kevin but I thought he was kind of stupid. I know he did what the thought was best, and maybe I would have done the same thing in that situation, but it seemed to be a bit much. I liked Fiona too. She was sweet, intelligent, kind, and a good match for Kevin. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading sweet YA romance reads.

A Sketch of What You Mean to Me is awesome! Great read! Amazing to see how Kevin was able to survive cancer and make a difference in the lives of others by showing compassion. During this time he discovered his true love of art by sketching animals and drawing cartoons which helped children who were undergoing cancer treatment. Even though initially he was not able to go to the University due to his illness, he was eventually able to go to the local college and study art. I most definitely would recommend this book to others. JN

Wow and beautiful. Loved this story but you better have your tissue handy. I loved the letters and posters card while Fiona traveled. This is a must read.

What started as a sweet first-love romance, turns into something much deeper, warmer and intenser.
I really loved the way the story and the characters evolved.
I think this is one of those stories that stay with me for a long time!

˃˃˃ Interview with the author
Q: How did you get the ideas for this book?
A: This is the first book I’ve ever written. I started writing it when I was 17 when my host brother from my exchange year in the US was diagnosed with cancer. I’ve never been good at talking about emotional things and so I felt an inner need to write. Since then, I write all the time, about any topic that interests me.
Q: Sounds like a very personal story.
A: It is because the topic touches and moves me but I tried to really write a fictional story and just put my feelings into it. I pretty much rewrote the whole story in 2016 because my editor made such good suggestions and now I feel like there is enough distance in the story to my personal life.
Q: Are there more books by you, which your readers can enjoy?
A: I wrote another romance novel which isn’t yet published and my paranormal fantasy romance “Heart of Power: The Siren’s Awakening” was published in November 2016. I’m very excited about that one. It will be a trilogy and soon, I will start writing the second book. I hope that I get it done until the end of 2017. I’m not sure how much time I will find for writing next to my full-time job.
Q: Who will like A Sketch of What You Mean To Me?
A: Well, it’s a cancer romance with strong friendships and true love, therefore, I think people who like books by Nicholas Sparks, like A Walk to Remember or John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars will love A Sketch of What You Mean to Me.
