Arriving in Miami at Miami International Airport (MIA)
In 2012 arriving in Miami was pulling on our nerves. It took us so long to get through customs, that they already took our luggage off the belt into a separate storage room. I was not looking forward to this now in 2016. However, this time, it was much easier and quicker.
Arriving in Miami
This time, I could check myself into the country at a machine in the arrival hall. There were so many machines, that I didn’t have to wait and could scan my passport and fingers right away. Afterwards, I had to hand the paper that was printed out to the customs guy (again I didn’t have to wait, since thanks to the machines, the masses of people were divided up very well). It took me only about 15min to get from the plane out of the airport compared to about 1,5h last time.
The best place to meet people
There is only one way to get out of the airport, so you can’t get lost on the way. In the end, you walk down a ramp into a roomwhere local people can meet you to pick you up. So, for them it’s very easy to spot you walking down the ramp and you don’t have to worry about meeting the person who picks you up. If nobody is there, your friend might be waiting in the nearby cell-phone parking lot. It takes about 3 min to drive from there to the exit at the ramp. You then just have to step out onto the covered street and tell the driver the letter on the pilar of the section you are waiting at.
Car rentals
Here you find all the car rental companies that are present at MIA. A shuttel bus will pick you up from the airport if you tell them your arival time and bring you directly to the car rental center. Or take the electric train to central station, where most car rental companies are located.
Hotel shuttle pick up
Pre-check with your hotel, whether they offer a free or paid service to pick you up from the airport.
Leaving MIA by bus
Use the MIA Mover electric-powered train to connect between MIA and Miami Central Station. Metrobus’ and Metrorail’s airport connections are located in the Miami Central Station.
The MIA Mover train station at the airport is located on the 3rd level between the Dolphin and Flamingo Garages.
Use the 3rd level Skyride (moving walks) to access the MIA Mover station.
Fares go from 25 cents to $2.40.
Enjoy your stay in Miami!
